Let's Celebrate!
At OC Polo, it’s always been important to the social fabric of the club to be able to come together and celebrate the moments big and small that bring us all together. This month, we’ve got a lot to celebrate! Last weekend, Colleen Newton (aka, Mama Newt) celebrated her 60th at the polo club, with 100 of her friends and family. It was particularly special because she celebrated her 50th with us in Coto de Caza. (More pictures) Later this month, we’re celebrating two of our most valuable team members as they leave us to head off to college!  And finally, with a heavy heart we’ll celebrate the life of our dear four-legged friend, the amazing Capataz.See you on the field,
Student Tournament
While it’s true you can learn to play polo at any age, it still requires a lot of hard work and practice.  Most students who have been bitten by the polo bug, take lessons multiple times a week. You can find them practicing in the hitting cage before their lessons, and watching club chukkers after to pick up tips from the “pros”.   The culmination of all this hard work is the Student Tournament!  When that email goes out announcing a student tournament, the text messages start flying. Everyone wants in!
New Arena Footing
Corey Schlom, The Arena SpecialistInstalls cutting edge footing in both arenas at OC Polo
Can you believe it's been four years since we played our first games in the arenas at Rancho Silverado Stables? That is a whole lot of chukkers! With that comes natural wear and tear and it is standard practice to replace the dirt, or “footing” as it's called in the equestrian community. Corey Schlom, the Arena Specialist and owner at Circle S Ranch, has been responsible for the maintenance of the OC Polo arenas since he first installed them.  When we first installed the footing, we were using a cutting edge product that had only been in one other polo arena in the country.  Four years later it was time for a refresh and upon doing a little research, Corey was thrilled to learn that there was a newer state of the art sand mixture on the market that would eliminate dust, increase drying time (substantially!) and provide a considerably better surface for playing polo. Thank you to Corey and Mike for all your hard work to update our arenas!
