Custom barn doors can be handcrafted to match existing barn styles, or to match the homes and outbuildings surrounding the barn. At Vintage Homes and Millwork, a B&D Builders company, we help you bring the functionality, look and style together into a beautiful, custom-made door that goes above and beyond your expectations.
When designing your custom barn door or stall front, it’s important to understand all of your options, including what type of wood will best fit your needs. The decision does not always boil down to look and feel alone, but rather functionality and durability as well.
At Vintage Homes and Millwork, we offer many wood types to fit various projects and conditions.
Here are the most popular choices:
Mahogany – Regarded as the hardest, strongest and highest quality wood. Our most popular wood species for custom doors.
Sapele Mahogany – Hardwood, native to Africa with distinctive and beautiful grain features. Extremely durable.
Western Red Cedar – Softwood with a warm hue.
Spanish Red Cedar – Softwood with a grain pattern similar to Mahogany. Accepts stains and finishes well.
Reclaimed White Oak – Hardwood, strong and sturdy with good water resistance.
White Pine – Softwood, light in weight. A good choice for interior doors.
